The words "Botox treatment" can come with a lot of stigmas; often, they serve as a punchline to jokes about the idle rich. In truth, Botox is an effective treatment for a variety of maladies, as well as a useful tool for a cosmetic touch-up.
Migraines and Musculoskeletal Pain
Botox (Botulinum Toxins) can be used, in particular, to treat migraines and musculoskeletal pain (in the head and neck). Migraines, sometimes known as "sick headaches" due to their frequent side effects of nausea and light sensitivity, are debilitating chronic headaches that can last up to fourteen days out of the month.
Musculoskeletal pain is the most common cause of persistent pain and is most often due to arthritis, back pain and/or local musculoskeletal conditions (such as tendinitis, bursitis, sprains), and (less commonly) injuries.
Receiving a Botox injection can relieve chronic migraines for up to twelve weeks. Similar procedures with injection sites at different parts of the body can relieve certain types of musculoskeletal (body) pain as well. Both migraines and body pains can be chronic and debilitating; Botox can provide relief. Please note that we perform Botox treatment limited to the head and neck only.
Crow’s Feet, Forehead, and Frown Lines
A more commonly recognized use for Botox rests with the cosmetic. Botox can be used, in particular, to ease wrinkles, such as crow's feet (lines around the eye), forehead, and frown lines. Muscles that are injected with Botox cannot contract; this "smoothes" any wrinkles in the skin, creating a softer, younger look. The treatment may be administered as many times as necessary to achieve the desired aesthetic.
Botox can also be used to treat TMJ (temporo-mandibular joint) pains and disorders. Most TMJ is caused by a tightening of the muscles related to lower jaw movement, leading to extra tension and chronic pain. Botox helps relax these muscles, easing the pain and allowing a healthier, simpler lifestyle.
Botox's uses lie beyond simply aesthetic and reach into the medically applicable; it can help with chronic pain and related disorders and give the patient immediate relief. For more information about our Botox services, contact us.
